Yulla Khas Village & Surroundings

A look at the homestay, the village, and the trail that begins right from the doorstep.

Why Stay in a Kinnauri Homestay?

There are no proper hotels in Yulla Khas. The village is small, remote, and almost entirely off the commercial tourism grid. The only way to stay here is with a local family — and that's exactly what makes the experience special.

  • Authentic Kinnauri hospitality: Home-cooked meals featuring local staples like septu, chhang, rajma, and apple-based dishes.
  • Real local knowledge: Your host family knows the Yulla Kanda trail, weather, and temple timings better than any guide book.
  • Trek logistics made easy: The homestay will arrange a local guide, porters, packed lunch, and even luggage storage while you trek.
  • Stay right at the trailhead: Skip the 12 km taxi from Tapri — wake up in the village and start walking.
  • Support the local economy: Your stay directly supports Kinnauri families in a region with limited livelihood options beyond apple farming.

What to Expect

  • Rooms: Simple but clean, usually with wooden floors and warm blankets. Attached washrooms with hot water.
  • Meals: Home-cooked and included in the price. Expect dal, rice, rajma, sabzi, roti, and an egg dish. Non-veg and chhang (local millet beer) available on request.
  • Connectivity: Mobile network is patchy. Jio works intermittently in parts of the village. Wi-Fi is rarely available — a good chance to disconnect.
  • Power: Electricity in the evenings, with some inverter backup. Carry a power bank.
  • Heating: Bukhari (wood-burning stove) in winter. Even in summer, nights are cold — pack a fleece.
