Yulla Kanda Weather - Month by Month
April
Temperature: 0°C to 12°C | Trail: May have snow patches | Temple: May open late April
April is the transition month. Lower trails are clear but the final section near the temple may still have snow. Rhododendrons begin blooming. A good month if you're comfortable with cold conditions.
May
Temperature: 5°C to 18°C | Trail: Clear | Temple: Open
One of the best months. The rhododendron forests are in spectacular bloom. Skies are clear and temperatures are pleasant for trekking. Pre-monsoon cloud build-up is possible in the afternoons - start early.
June
Temperature: 8°C to 22°C | Trail: Clear | Temple: Open
Good month with warm days but cool nights. The Himalayan range is usually visible before the pre-monsoon haze sets in later in the month. School holidays bring more families - book accommodation in advance.
July
Temperature: 10°C to 18°C | Trail: Wet & Slippery | Temple: Open but Risky
Monsoon arrives. The trail becomes very slippery. While the temple is technically accessible, the risk of injury and the approach road landslides make this month inadvisable for most trekkers.
August
Temperature: 10°C to 17°C | Trail: Wet | Temple: Open (Janmashtami peak)
Janmashtami (Lord Krishna's birthday) falls in August and is the biggest annual event at Yulla Kanda. Thousands of pilgrims trek despite the rains. If you want this experience, plan ahead and book accommodation 2–3 months in advance.
September
Temperature: 5°C to 15°C | Trail: Clear | Temple: Open
Post-monsoon September is arguably the best month to visit Yulla Kanda. The air is crystal clear after the rains have washed away the haze. The Himalayan peaks are strikingly visible. Fewer crowds than summer.
October
Temperature: 2°C to 12°C | Trail: Clear | Temple: Open (closes late Oct)
Excellent month. Crisp mountain air, golden foliage, and the best visibility of the year. The temple typically closes by late October ahead of winter. Check current year's closing date before planning.
November to March
Temperature: -10°C to 5°C | Trail: Snow-covered | Temple: Closed
The route is buried under heavy snow. The road to Yulla Khas village is blocked. Not recommended for general visitors.
